Sofia Coppola had a date at New York’s Bookmarc on Sept. 17 to sign copies of her first book, Sofia Coppola Archive: 1999-2023. The event led hundreds to queue up for hours in a line that snaked through the West Village streets for what appeared to be longer than a mile. That is according to an Instagram post shared by What Is New York that went viral and caught the eye of the filmmaker’s famous father, Francis Ford Coppola.
“He sent that to me,” the 52-year-old Priscilla director told The Hollywood Reporter last week at Chateau Marmont during a Chanel-hosted party to celebrate the book. “It was so nice to meet so many young kids that were all dressed up and excited about it. I don’t get that experience very often.”

Something else that’s new for her is Instagram. In fact, both the father and daughter are new(ish) to the platform. “It’s funny because he’s more into it than I am, but it is fun. He’s really into it,” she explained of their bonding over being social media newbies. “I’m just trying to put stuff on there that I hope people will like — references for films and things — but I try not to think about it too much. I’m winging it.”
She added that most of her recent posts are to promote Priscilla, starring Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi, which comes out Nov. 3.
