South Park has found its next target: AI.
Paramount+ has announced its fifth South Park event special and it’s titled South Park: Joining the Panderverse.
The description: “Cartman’s deeply disturbing dreams portend the end of the life he knows and loves. The adults in South Park are also wrestling with their own life decisions as the advent of AI is turning their world upside down.” This marks their first special in more than a year.
South Park released a brief teaser for the episode, which streams Friday, Oct. 27 in the U.S. and Canada and the next day in the U.K. and Australia. The teaser shows familiar South Park characters becoming different genders, ages and races, suggesting that identity politics might also get satirized.
The special follows South Park: Post Covid, South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covid, South Park: The Streaming Wars, and South Park: The Streaming Wars Part 2.
It’s not yet clear whether Joining the Panderverse will be in two parts like the other specials, which were each about an hour long and effectively made for two South Park movies.
Last year, South Park celebrated the 25-year anniversary of its debut on Aug. 13, 1997 on Comedy Central.
